FAQs

Do you do any buffing or polishing prior to the ceramic coating?

After installing ceramic coatings and paint sealants over the last 11 years, we noticed a trend.

Most people who ended up getting any kind of polishing done reversed our hard work (in a fairly short amount of time) by improperly maintaining their vehicle. It was disheartening.

Conversely, we also noticed that as long as paint is decontaminated via clay bar and prepped chemically before hand to remove and oils or silicones, then the ceramic coating will adhere just as well as if we did polishing before hand.

Which ultimately showed us that it wasn't all that necessary to polish vehicles before applying the ceramic coating.

So, we do not offer paint correction or polishing because our preparation does not hinder the coatings performance.

What is the difference between a paint sealant and a ceramic coating?

A paint sealant and a ceramic coating offer two different levels of exterior protection.

A paint sealant is a silicone based product that bonds lightly to the paint. Imagine a light version of a ceramic coating. Paint sealants offer hydrophobic properties, slickness, some kind of UV protection and chemical resistance similar to a ceramic coating, but on a way lesser scale. They typically last 3-12 months, in comparison to ceramic coatings that can last up to 1-3 years.

A ceramic coating chemically bonds much more strongly to the paint and creates a harder, longer lasting protective layer. Ceramic coatings have stronger chemical resistance, more improved durability, higher quality hydrophobic behavior, and holds onto that “just detailed” look longer than paint sealants do.

Paint sealants are typically how we do maintenance on cars that are ceramic coated to really ensure the coating is taken care of and is performing well.

Do ceramic coatings fix or prevent scratches or rock chips?

Ceramic coatings do not protect against scratches or rock chips. The coating itself is meant more to prevent dirt and other contaminates from adhering to the exterior of your car, but the coating itself is microns thick, so it is not capable of preventing damage from rocks, keys, or other means of damaging the surface.

Paint protection film is what people tend to go with if they want some form of protection against scratches and rock chips. We can refer you to a PPF shop if that is more of what you are looking for.
